Everything you need to know about filing for divorce in Singapore
Understanding Singapore's Divorce Laws
Singapore follows a fault-based divorce system under the Women's Charter. To file for divorce, you must prove that your marriage has irretrievably broken down based on specific grounds recognized by Singapore law.
Grounds for Divorce in Singapore
- Adultery: Your spouse has committed adultery and you find it intolerable to live with them
- Unreasonable Behavior: Your spouse has behaved in such a way that you cannot reasonably be expected to live with them
- Desertion: Your spouse has deserted you for a continuous period of at least 2 years
- Separation (3 years with consent): You have lived apart for at least 3 years and your spouse consents to the divorce
- Separation (4 years without consent): You have lived apart for at least 4 years
